Our thoughts~ There are three levels of Perplexus the Rookie, Original and Epic. We actually now own two. Perplexus sent us an Original to test out. My kids were already introduced to the idea because my mother had purchased the Epic for my husband for his birthday this past year. The Epic is full of very hard maze activities where you have to be crafty and patient with just the right amount of pure skill to get the ball to go where you need to go. My sons loved the epic and did pretty well. They never made it all the way through the maze but had a fun time trying to be just like dad and play with the Epic maze ball. I was excited when Perplexus wanted us to check out the Original. I had explained that my kids like the Epic and can get pretty far but is still a bit advanced for them. So when the Original came in the mail Isaac was excited that he had a ball just like dad but one that he could do.
Reasons I love this ball.
1) The Original teaches patience. You have to be patient and follow the ball with your eyes while gently guiding the globe around so the ball can follow the path.
2) The Original teaches perseverance and determination. You are not going to get it on the first try. And if you do you are AMAZING. When the ball falls off the easiest way to start again is to find the edge where the start is. Some people probably could jump the track but I have no idea how to. So getting to 20 and having to start back at 1 is a little disappointing but it is teaching perseverance and determination to my son.
3) The Original takes time and attentiveness. Time to get through the course and Isaac can sit quietly for hours trying to get through course and keeps him well focused and attentive on the goal. Plus the time that he is quiet but exercising his brain and motor skills is time well spent.
So all in all we here love both the Epic and the Original. I do have to say our Original gets way more use. Isaac and Noah both love to attempt the course. Adam and Gabriel just love to see the little ball go around. So this Toy has captivated all 4 of my kids curiosity which means it is a worthy toy to have. And I have to say it is nice not having to change batteries in a toy. When not in use the Globes have little plastic stands to put them on. We have even carefully put the Globe on the stand so that the ball inside stayed where Isaac left off so he could go back to it.

ReplyDeleteI learned "The concept behind PERPLEXUS was created by 3-D design teacher Michael McGinnis in the late 1970′s as a project for an art class. Michael envisioned turning his creation into a toy."
