Sharpie Gel Highlighter Review

Sharpie Gel Highlighter

Description from the company.....

Sharpie Accent Gel Highlighter features SmearBlock gel technology that provides total smear protection across pen, marker and inkjet inks. Smear-protection includes ballpoint, roller and gel pens. Highlighter works on all paper surfaces including glossy, rice (Bible pages), and vellum papers. Gel ink will not bleed through papers or dry out.

Our Thoughts~  I was very intrigued with the idea that these had a smear-protection quality to them.  Along with the fact that they would not bleed through paper.. Even paper as thin as Bible pages.  Everyone who owns a Bible or has seen one.  Has known the feel of the rice style paper of the Bible Pages.  The thin See through quality.  A lot of other highlighters easily bleed through pages especially these delicate Bible pages.  So I decided that my Bible was going to be my tester.  I like to highlight passages in the Bible that help me on a daily basis.  Here is a page of my Bible in the book of Proverbs where I used the yellow gel highlighters to highlight to passages.  I like that it went on smoothly, did not bleed or smear.  I also like a quality that isn't mentioned in their description.  I like that it isn't overbearing.  Some highlighters are very much a POP off the page and burn your retina colors.  Which sometimes makes it hard to read a page that some of the highlighter was applied to but these are a soft yellow.  Just enough to stand out but not distracting when I am looking at other passages on the same page.  I honestly think that is my favorite quality about these.

Now I need to find more of these in multiple colors so I can keep highlighting up a storm.  These will be great when I go back to school.  As I said before I actually shied away from  highlighting in my text books because of the overbearing colors but now I think I will have a great tool for my classes.

Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops

Winter is coming up fast and already I have had a horrible cough/ sore throat.  I hope that is not a foreshadow of how this cold and flu season is going to go.  Luckily I was able to test out Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops during my recent illness.

First a little Back story on the company and product (this was on their product description)......

Ulysses S. Grant was President, the population of America hovered at 39 million, and the telephone was still a pipe dream, when in 1870 J. Herman Pine hung out a confectionery shingle on 8th Street above Walnut in Philadelphia and, along with his brother, sold their first batch of what they called 'Pine Brothers Glycerine Tablets.' In an attempt to relieve his own sore throat and those of his family members, Mr. Pine, a former German confectionery maker, determined that by combining the soothing natural qualities of glycerin with the healing properties of gum acacia, he could sooth and mitigate the mild discomfort of a sore throat. Add in some natural flavoring and a sweetener and voila, Pine Brothers Softish Throat Drops were born. "I have discovered something," Pine wrote, "which will give quick throat relief to thousands afflicted as I was." He added,"Perhaps I won't make much money out of this. But I can make people happy, and that's more important than money." Mr. Pine was being unduly modest, as his "discovery" would become one of the most successful, most delicious and most unique throat lozenges in the world. Nor has the recipe changed appreciably since it was first introduced to the public over 140 years ago.

In 1930 Pine Brothers was sold to the Life Savers Company and continued to flourish. Known for its 'soft drop consistency,' Pine Brothers lozenges became a favorite of adults and children alike. The product, which attracted healthiest sales in the eastern and northern states, due to its icy winters, reached its peak popularity in the 1970's. The company was sold by Life Savers, and then, having been re-sold and acquired a number of times, found itself essentially rudderless and under appreciated; this despite a legion of loyal consumers. Cost cutting changes were made to the original recipes, packaging became stale and marketing non-existent; Pine Brothers began to be made overseas. Sales declined.

Recently, Pine Brothers was acquired by the creator and former owner of Airborne, Victoria Knight-McDowell, for her new company 3 Sisters Home Products™. Much time and effort has been spent locating the original Pine Brothers recipes, redesigning the packaging, and creating an exciting yet classic new look. The natural product is once again being made in America, and is launching nationally in fall 2011. At which time old Mr. Pine, will succeed once again in "making people happy." God bless him!

Our Thoughts~   These Throat Drops are interesting.. It is really hard to explain.. The softish they are talking about is more of a thick gummy.  So they are sorta like a gummy bear only harder in consistency.  Which makes them pretty interesting to say the least.  I am really horrible at letting my throat drops actually melt the whole way I end up playing with them between my back teeth and crunching down pretty much making their soothing effect voided, due to swallowing small pieces of drop instead of letting the medicine trickle down my throat.  However, Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops really don't allow me to bite down like I usually do.  Which is great.  Because they are Softish they are harder to bite through and I realize I am doing it and stop trying and in turn allows the medicinal trickle effect that is supposed to happen with throat drops.

I got to try two flavors out of the three.  The cherry and honey.  Both were not over whelming and easy on the palate.  I did feel that my scratch throat was soothed but I did need to keep up with using them consistently. If I forgot to renew it my sore throat would come back.

All in all they worked great and were easy to carry in these little containers (see photo below).  You can find them a CVS and other retailers just check their web site.  Link is above.

Elfishki and the Unwelcome Guest ~ ends 10/24 (11:59pm Eastern Time)

Elfishki and the Unwelcome Guest App (for iPad, iPad 2 or, iPad 3 only)

Application Description given by the Company

Once upon a time, on the beautiful Rainbow Island in the middle of the Sparkling Sea lived magical little people called Elfishki.

Some of them could fly like butterflies and some could swim like mermaids. They shared the island with animals who could speak and trees who did not talk, but understood everything. All in all, this was a place where miracles happened every day.

One morning, an ice cream seller named Vince and his friend, a dragon named Brungildo, went to their garage for the freezer boxes. But they couldn't get inside. Vince kept putting his key into the keyhole, but it would just fall out—as if somebody pushed it back. Vince peeked into the keyhole and was dumbfounded—inside the lock was a tiny blue person with a tail...

Here's what you find in the iPad application:

1. Original, not found anywhere else captivating texts, designed to develop your child’s conscious reading skills - according to the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

2. Stunning interactive art, classic animation and videos.

3. Professional Audio Voice over of the story, so your child can listen along with the text.

4. THREE(3) Questions on every page of the book specifically designed to help your child analyze the text, boost their imagination and make predictions about the story.

5. A bonus game specifically designed to test your child's attention to detail - Help Jeanso Pack his Backpack.

Our Thoughts~  My eldest son loves books.  And I love that with this app he can listen to it or he can read the pages himself.  On each page there are questions for him to review what he read.  Between the text pages is an interactive page where you can touch around and the picture moves or even talks.  I think his favorite is the little bug saying goodbye on one of them.

This is a great app to have on hand while we are at appointments.  It keeps my eldest busy listening to the story and playing with the interactive pages.  His favorite part of this app is the bonus game where he helps Jeanso Pack his Backpack.  The backpack shows a picture of the item to look for then you find it in the messy room.  For $2.99 definitely a great Game to have on hand.

Here is the link to the app in the iTunes store.

Guess Moo

Guess Moo App for iPad.

 Description that the company provided...

Guess Moo! is a game that provides an introduction to twelve animals: cats, dogs, cows, chickens, horses, roosters, goats, ducks, sheep, pigs, geese and donkeys.
The animals’ voices, alongside memorable pictures and poems read by a professional actor will help your child accurately identify and remember the characteristics of each animal.
Beginning with the word "quiz" the anticipation of victory is already building! The quiz provides a great opportunity to learn something new and test childrens’ knowledge in a guessing game format. As you could probably guess from the app’s title, the player must guess which animal is doing the “talking.” Eight different animals make a noise and the app asks “Who am I?” The player must accurately select which animal is “talking” eight times in a row before moving on to the game. Of course, your little one will have several chances to win.
A PRIZE game awaits the most successful guessers – but they must act quickly! In this game the animals fly quickly up through the sky on balloons. The player must pop each balloon before the animal flies off the screen and herd the animals back together on the ground.
Bright, fun pictures of animals, playful music throughout the game and a simple, and easy-to-use interface allow your child to play and learn independently. We hope that Guess Moo! will be by your child’s side for a long time to come!
With Guess Moo! your child will be introduced to various animals and will learn to distinguish them by the sounds they make.
The learning process takes place in various forms and with several activities. Guess Moo! will help your children develop cognitive skills, listening skills, general and visual memory, motor skills and reaction time all with a positive spirit… I won’t be surprised if Mom and Dad want to guess along.
This application is designed for children ages 2-5.
This application is available at the App Store for $2.99 Find it HERE!

Above are some Screen Shots.
Our Thoughts~  My 2.5 year old really enjoyed this game.  There are 8 animals that the child can learn about then when they get the hang of the sounds they make your child can go take a quiz.  The quiz gives you the animal's sound and your child guesses who the sound belongs too.  When they get a 100% they get to play a quick pop the balloons before the end.
I like that this app makes my little guy giggle.  For $2.99 it is a great app to have on hand for your iPad or IPhone when you are out and about and your child needs a little entertaining.  My 2.5 year old played this while we were waiting at the doctors office and kept him busy a pretty long time.  My 4.5 year old I think was a bit too old for the target range.  He played it mastered it and then went on.  I haven't let my 16 month old play around with it yet because other than listening to the sounds I don't think he would really understand.

But over all I like it and so does my son.

Bows-N-Ties.com has an amazing selection of color, style, texture, length, and pretty much any other quality you would like for amazing prices.

This beautiful wine red tie we got to test is from one of their lines called Cavallieri.  Cavallieri ties usually run between $50-60 each.  But by ordering through Bows-n-ties you can get this beautiful tie for $24.90.  They can offer their ties at amazing prices because they are not a brick and mortar type store and they ship factory direct.    For men who wear ties everyday this could be a huge expense for some nice ties in a wide selection if you have to purchase at $60 a piece.  With Bows-n-Ties you get more for your money.

I think this tie is beautiful.  It is amazingly soft but durably made.  I think my favorite thing about Bows-n-Ties is their kids tie selection.  They have a huge tie selection for boys for $9.90 and up.  With four boys I can't wait to get them some ties for their nice dress shirts.  I have had a very hard time finding any I like in regular stores.  So go to the link above and check out the amazing selection of Bows, Ties and Tie Accessories.  If you are nervous because you aren't sure how to tie a tie..
