*****WARNING WARNING WARNING***** This is a Post relating to and discussing Female Menstruals!!
What is a DivaCup? A menstrual cup is a type of cup or barrier worn inside the vagina during menstruation to collect menstrual fluid. Unlike tampons and pads, the cup collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing it. (Web Definition)
A little bit about the history of the Menstrual cup and DivaCup in general. (from their site)
The menstrual cup was first developed in the 1930’s. It was made from rubber latex (an allergen for many). Millions were sold in those first years by multiple companies. Because of management issues, the companies closed and menstrual cups were hard to find. Then over 15 years ago, Francine recognized the need for an alternative to unreliable disposable tampons and pads and found a company offering menstrual cups. She and her daughter, Carinne, singlehandedlyresurrected the 75 year old menstrual cup concept by reintroducing this product to the world market when it was virtually unknown. They sold this rubber/latex version for 10 years.
In 2003, drawing on their experience and expert knowledge about the menstrual cup category, they developed a modern redesign, made from soft, top-quality silicone, to meet the needs of today’s woman. They launched their own company, Diva International. Their revolutionary concept, The DivaCup, is patent-pending and ISO certified. Today, The DivaCup is the preferred choice.
The DivaCup Team has many years of experience in natural feminine hygiene alternatives. Their passion is to provide women an environmentally responsible, convenient and reliable alternative to tampons and pads.
Our Thoughts~ I have been testing this for a couple of cycles. I actually received it after one of my cycles and then had to wait around 34 days till I could actually try it. I had the Diva Cup sitting in its pretty pouch that it comes with waiting and taunting me. I was a bit nervous to try the Diva Cup. I wasn't sure if I could place it right or if it would be comfortable. With one a month till I could test it out I got pretty frazzled by all the questions in my head.
Surprisingly when my menstrual cycle came I reread the directions for the, hmmm, 100th time and proceed to test it out. Amazingly after I had it placed I really couldn't feel it. As a safety I did use a panty liner just incase because you really do need to gauge your own cycle and cup fill rate. The product being used for a normal flow cycle is rated for about 10-12 hours of use before having to empty and replace. During testing I was only on my second menstrual after my pregnant and nursing break (usually you don't get your period while pregnant and nursing, some people do but I haven't with any of my boys). Since I was only on my second I was having a bit of a heavier flow than normal so I did find I needed to empty the cup around every 4-5 hours instead of going all the way through the 10-12 hour time frame.
Ok onto another fear. Was I going to get it in there and not be able to get it out. Well this too was a senseless worry. As the Cup fills it does descend a little to make it easier to reach in and grab out. After removing the diva cup you dump the contents in the toilet and clean it out. The DivaCup company does make a special DivaCup wash to clean your DivaCup.
About the DivaWash......
We recommend that The DivaWash be used to clean The DivaCup. We have formulated The DivaWash as a botanically-based, all natural cleanser that has been specifically designed to protect the integrity of the silicone material.
It is important to use only a natural, non-fragrance soap with The DivaCup. Many soaps leave a residue. These can leave a film on the cup that may cause irritation.
The DivaWash is:
Naturally pH balanced
Gentle: Ideal for sensitive skin
Concentrated formula: reduces the eco-footprint
100% plant-based ingredients
No animal testing or animal ingredients
No parabens, sulfates or petrochemicals
Can be used daily as a facial cleanser or luxurious shower and bath gel. The gentle formula leaves your Diva body clean, soft and never dry.
Personally, I recommend the DivaCup. It is not only easy to use but environmentally and bodily friendly. I say environmentally friendly because honestly think of how many tampons or pads you use throughout your cycle that is being put into landfills. That is a pretty hefty about. And just incase you don't already know I will tell you or remind you NEVER NEVER NEVER flush the tampons. Honestly they are not made to go in the toilet they do not breakdown like toilet paper.

There are 2 sizes: Size 1 is for woman and teens who are under 30 and have never been pregnant. Size 2 is for woman who have been pregnant or older than 30.
A little tip. After you place your DivaCup rotate it for a full turn just to make sure it is all unfolded and placed correctly.
