Gardening (Guest Post) on Knockout Roses

Landscaping with Knockout Roses

Roses are a gorgeous flower and a symbol of love and friendship. They can also make nearly any landscape look absolutely fabulous with very little effort. Today, there are several varieties of roses from which to choose. Many gardeners prefer the Knockout Rose for landscaping purposes due to its abundant blooms and ease of growth. Knockout Rose Bushes are shrub roses that are extremely easy to care for. They bloom from the late part of spring through the late fall.

Varieties of Knockout Roses

Currently, there are seven types of Knockout Roses that are licensed and the colors range from the classic deep red, to varieties of yellows and pinks. Double Knockout Roses are extremely popular and known for their amazing double blooms and blankets of thick, colorful roses. Double Knockout Roses bloom for up to nine months and is extremely easy to grow.

When landscaping with Knockout Roses you can choose to combine several colors for a lively palate or use just one color for a more tailored look. The great thing about Knockout Roses is that they all have a fairly easygoing manner, with tolerance for hot and cold weather and good resistance to disease. Even the beginner gardener or landscaper can easily care for knockout roses.

Planting Your Knockout Roses

The first thing to do when landscaping with Knockout Roses is to choose a spot where they will be exposed to full sunlight. The soil should be rich with nutrients and well drained. If planting several Knockout or Double Knockout Roses, spread them out with about four feet between them. This will give them room to spread in, cover the landscape and allow for proper airflow.

It is recommended that you surround the planting bed of the roses with an evergreen border or low perennial in order to hide the lower part of the Knockout Rose bush that is somewhat less attractive. You may also plant the roses around your house to soften the hardscape and bring volume, color and depth into the area. Another landscaping idea is to use them to surround garden features such as benches, sculptures, fountains or birdbaths.

I highly recommend using Knockout Roses in your landscaping. They are beautiful flowers and extremely easy to care for, making them the perfect flowering bush for expert landscapers as well as those who are just beginning. Plant a few Knockout Roses and enjoy their color for almost the whole year with very little effort.
